BC areas to consider relocating toMaple Ridge

Maple Ridge is a fast growing community with many unique features. As part of the Greater Vancouver Regional District it enjoys the benefits of being part of Vancouver, only a 30-60 minute drive away(45 Kms), while retaining its small town feel, surrounded by farmland.

Alouette Lake, near Maple RidgeAlouette LakeMaple Ridge has a moderate coastal climate with little seasonal variations in temperature. The mean annual air temperature in the District is approximately 10° C and the mean daily temperatures for January and July are 1.8° C and 17.5° C respectively.

Top election issues - Nov 2005

As an insight into Maple Ridge the Vancouver Sun featured the top three issues in the local elections in November of 2005.

1. URBAN PRESSURE

How this rural community will cope with urban pressures and where that pressure will be directed is probably the major bone of contention in this election. Should development be into areas already set aside for development in the GVRD’s Livable Regional plan or should Maple Ridge open up new areas. No one is sure how Maple Ridge would go about removing green zone areas from the GVRD plan.

2. HANEY

The commercial and residential development of Haney is also a major issue as Haney has the capacity to house many more people and develop a shopping district that might convince locals to stay at home instead of travelling to shopping centres in Langley or Coquitlam.

3. SERVICES

The municipality’s growing population is putting pressure on police and fire department services and the spread of marijuana-growing operations has residents concerned about law and order issues which candidates have noted for attention. Adding extra officers to the police department and bringing in more full-time firefighters is on many people’s minds.
